Water sitting against your foundation is one of those problems that seems minor until it's not. Moisture that has nowhere to go will work its way into your crawlspace, weaken your foundation over time, and create all kinds of headaches that are way more expensive to deal with than the drainage issue itself. That's exactly what we were up against here.

The backyard wasn't moving water away from the house the way it needed to. So we got in there and regraded the area - pulling and reworking the soil so the ground would slope correctly and push water out and away from the structure. Site preparation like this is the foundation of everything else. If the grade is wrong, nothing you put on top of it is going to fix the underlying issue.

Once the grading was dialed in, we spread seed across the entire area and got straw down to protect it. That straw layer matters more than people think. It holds moisture in, keeps the seed from washing away in a rain event, and gives everything a fighting chance to establish. It's not just tossed on there - it's spread evenly to get good coverage across the whole space.

A yard that holds water is telling you something. Ignoring it usually means bigger problems down the road - mold, structural damage, soggy spots that never dry out. Getting the grading right and giving the ground a healthy grass cover is one of the most practical things you can do for your home's long-term health.
